Overcranked 07 - The Aftermath

Overcranked 07 was a blast.
Tickets were A$85 at the door, but hell. it was fucking worth it.

Hans and I stayed at the Red Octopus Stage throughout the entire festival cause it was the extreme metal stage. there was a punk/indie stage, emo/hard rock stage, emocore/metalcore stage and of course the extreme metal stage.

Here's the set list.

we took tonnes of photos. but almost none of ourselves.

this was definitely not a regular gig for hans and I.

Firstly it was a festival. Baybeats, in terms of the bands playing, is a feeble attempt compared to this. renowned death metal acts like Psycroptic and Dawn of Azazel played. and so did God Forbid (but that was the metalcore stage).

Secondly,NO BANDS SUCKED. serious. every single band was kickass. some had a better soundcheck than others but none of the bands gave crap music.

Thirdly, though there were almost no other asians except for us, the locals were fucking good to us. talked to us, asked us where we came from, what we like to listen to. nothing like the SG gigs where everyone basically ignores everyone else that they dont know.
Lastly, we got priceless photos with Rigel of DAWN OF AZAZEL. he was a damn nice guy. he was around few bands before his band was up, we flashed our horns. and he flashed his at us. came over to pose for a photo for us. after the entire fest, he came down, talked to the few fans that stayed behind. we told him we came from singapore and we asked if he had any stuff like stickers or posters he could give us and he went in the back to bring us 2 copies of his lastest album SEDITION, just for us. after which we all took a photo together.
Great success!

before that we already got a free cd from an aussie death metal band Minus Life. and the guy at the merch booth gave us the fest posters for free.

the only disappointing thing about the entire fest was that the biggest stage wasnt for extreme metal. it was for metalcore. says quite a lot about what aussie kids listen to more.

Happy times..

good surfing tip.

Overcranked 07

hey all.

sorry for the lack of updates.
we still have no proper internet connection in our house.
hopefully the net will be up by the end of this month.

anyway the owner of the house we've been putting up in has decided to let us stay for 3 months. so its us 4 OIAP kids and one Aussie dude in the house. 5 guys in a partly furnished 3 room house. well. at least we've got a place to stay. thanks a billion to our mate john.

alright, before you guys start asking, I will say that I HAVE been taking photos. just damn lazy to even upload them from my cam to my com. I swear I'll post them once we get a connection at home. I swear. really.

anyway I'm in the office now. not much to do today. finished all my work for this week on Wednesday. in fact... I've been slacking since 10am. went online to look for gigs and !Kapow! I realised that there will be a huge music (Punk, Rock, Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, Thrash, Death and Black Metal) festival in the city tomorrow. (click blog title for link)

the OVERCRANKED 07 features: Helmet (US), The Butterfly Effect, Frenzal Rhomb, God Forbid (US) , Behind Crimson Eyes, The Hot lies, Sunk Loto, Horsell Common, The Hard-Ons, 8 Ft Sativa (NZ), Psycroptic, Against, Terrorust, (Jobson's) Dreamkillers, Dawn of Azazel(NZ), Minus Life, Mammal, Lord, Blowhard, Wish for Wings, Mourningtide, Repeat Offender, The Rivalry, The Daylight Curse, The Amity Affliction, 50 Lions, Melodyssey, Vicious, Pathogen, Rollerball, Fort, Mary Trembles, Dyscord, Ruins, Art Vandelay, Beijing Tank, Regular John , Western Decay, City in Panic, Dead Letter Circus, The Quickening and Severed Link.

well. we're gonna be checking it out tomorrow, at the expense of 70 odd Australian dollars. (hopefully they will sell tickets at the entrance)(and hopefully it wont rain tomorrow.)

if all goes well we'll be able to catch Psycroptic and Dawn of Azazel. and come out of the pit in one piece....

homeless bums.

brave new world

ah. greetings from australia.
date: 15 March 07
time: 1449h
blogging remotely because we havent been able to get access to the internet since we landed. but i'll post this as soon as possible.

we havent got a proper place to stay yet.
sleeping on the streets is totally brutal.

gotcha! just pulling your leg.
we're currently putting up at alex and jinghan's place. their landlord was kind enough to take the both of us in till we find a permanent place to stay.

and i think we've got a good chance of getting this place very near school. A$150 per week per person. gonna look at the house at 5.30 later. hopefully we can get it and move in either today or tomorrow.

so far i've gone to 2 seminars. the first one is about a laboratory safety standard called PC2 (Physical Containment Level 2). damn boring. kept dozing off. the other would probably be interesting if i could undestand a single word the guy was talking about. accent not that heavy but it was serious chimology. obviously we kept dozing off for this one too.

right now i'm waiting for hans and the other 2 guys to knock off. my supervisor isnt free today. and he seems to be holding 2 posts at the same time. busy dude. so he's got no time to tell me what to do and shit. told me we could probably start tomorrow by doing some background reading.

oh yeah. we might be going town today. cuz its late night shopping in the suburbs every thursday. and for friday its the city. but late night here means 9pm. ah well. better than nothing.

nothing to do now but wait. for like another 2 hours.
well i could use the time to lengthen my drum track for my personal music project on Guitar Pro 5.

see you when i see you.
g'day!

as you can see. we are pretty damn bored.
desperately trying to spend our last hours in Singapore awake.
and then arrive in Brisbane like zombies.

well no matter.
there's still the 8 hour flight to
1: sleep
2: down some whiskey
3: catch a movie
4: pee
5: more whiskey
6: movie again
7: sleep

you get the idea.

oh btw, if you're wondering why the time is screwed up its because I changed the time zone to fit the Brisbane one.
so there.

lastly i would like to thank everyone who made this opportunity possible. despite the fuck ups and such. i would also like to apologize to all my friends who left way before us that i didn't send off.

Pre Departure

And the result is Australia.

We forgive whoever that screwed us over. Seriously. Then again our idea of forgiveness might come with a stab or two. Depending on the state of mind(intoxicated/normal).

We have no address yet but we'll get one soon.

Hans is will attempt to read Nietzsche and Elwin.. dude.. I don't know man.
Oh yea. And I will be playing D2 too. Ps: leo, help me get occulus. I have 0 form today. Fuck.

3 more hours to the time I'm supposed to be awake.
So.. sorry for the post that makes no sense at all. Will come back with better post soon. We promise.

Lastly, kill for Satan. And.. stay healthy everyone.
